SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A unique way to pay tribute to our vets on Veterans Day night.

The Valley Photo Center, a non-profit gallery in Tower Square in Springfield, is displaying more than 100 years of military photographs.

The exhibit is entitled “Images from the Front & Home Front.” It features pictures taken by Defense Department photographers, historical photos from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, and from the Electric Boat submarine manufacturer in Groton, Connecticut.

The idea is to foster respect for the people performing the mission.

John McCarthy, a retired Marine Reservist from Wilbraham told 22News, “They may be against the war in Iraq or Afghanistan, they realize that the people that serve are really heroic, and we need to honor those people. They make a great sacrifice, and also their families’ sacrifice.”

Some of the photos feature western Massachusetts military personnel. The exhibit at Tower Square is open weekdays from 11am to 2pm.
